SEWICKLEY — Some eye-catching art will pop up this weekend in a surprising Sewickley space.

It’s all part of the Fashion to Passion 3 “pop-up” art show inside the former Travelwares store at 429 Broad St.

Sewickley Heights artist Cindy Engler will showcase original oil paintings, three-dimensional mosaics made from shattered safety glass, carved and layered wax works and sculptures incorporating natural animal skulls and horns.

The paintings depict “self-confident women,” said the former fashion model, who studied fashion illustration at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh.

“Fashion to Passion 3” public showings will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The venue, in a former storefront, fits the growing art-world trend of “pop-up” shows that turn non-traditional spaces into temporary galleries.

“Pop up shows of any kind are super hot right now in New York and L.A.,” Engler said. “There is excitement in transforming a new, used or vacant space into something it never was. We’ll try to create a nightclub-lounge atmosphere featuring my art.”
